Martini Marathon Day 15 – Darkside

The Darkside. Do you see the skull? Awesome!

No time to write much as I am running late for an Halloween party! The following cocktail is one of my creation, even though there isn’t much to brag about! It’s basically a dark blue / purple cosmo, the way I like it. Very nice for Halloween and with an incredible taste. Try it! Tell your friends!

Darkside

Ingredients

  • 1 part Vodka Citron
  • 1/2 part Cointreau
  • 1/2 part Blue Curaçao
  • 1/2 part Lime Juice
  • Cranberry Juice
  • A lime slice for garnish

Preparation

Pour the Vodka, Cointreau, blue Curaçao and lime juice in a shaker filled with cracked ice and shake until cold as death. Strain into a chilled martini glass, fill with cranberry juice and garnish with a lime slice. BOOM!

Enjoy!

Martini Marathon Day 13 – Cupid’s Cosmicpolitan

Cupid's Cosmicpolitan

Today, I worked hard on the house and honestly, I am NOT feeling like having a martini. A beer sounds way more appropriate! My lovely wife decided to help me in the marathon by having the cocktail tonight. Isn’t she sweet. 🙂 Thinking of what she wanted, it was leaning toward a Cosmo. This is just what I need: a revenge on the extra dry cosmopolitan made earlier this week.

We had to try two recipes tonight. The first one is not worth mentioning as it tasted exactly like a bad cough syrup! Blha! The second one we tried, the Cupid’s Cosmicpolitan, was way more enjoyable:

Cupid’s Cosmicpolitan

Ingredients

  • 4 parts Cranberry Juice
  • 1 1/2 parts Vodka
  • 1 part Grand Marnier
  • 1 part Lemon Juice
  • A Maraschino Cherry for Garnish

Preparation

Pour the liquids in a shaker filled with cracked ice and shake until very cold. Strain into a chilled martini glass and garnish with a Maraschino Cherry.

Appreciation

For me, a “Real” or “Classic” Cosmo is made with just a dash of cranberry juice, for a stronger, yet fruity taste. This version is for anyone who prefers a higher juice ratio in their cocktail to “camouflage” the alcohol taste. 🙂

Enjoy!

Martini Marathon Day 11 – Monday Cosmopolitan

A Monday Cosmopolitan

It’s Monday, it’s beautiful outside, let’s celebrate. I was rummaging through my cocktail books and found this recipe: the Monday cosmopolitan. I saw it as a sign 😉 and decided to try it. At first glance, it looks like it is going to taste like the classic cosmopolitan but drier. Let’s see…

Monday Cosmopolitan

Ingredients

  • 2 parts Vodka
  • 1 part Extra Dry Vermouth
  • 1 part Cranberry Juice
  • 1/2 part Orange Liqueur (Triple Sec, Cointreau)
  • Orange Slice for Garnish

Preparation

Pour all ingredients except the orange slice in a shaker filled with cracked ice. Shake until you get frostbite. Strain into a chilled martini glass and garnish with an orange slice. (or wedge!)

Appreciation

Even though it’s pretty, the Monday Cosmopolitan is not a hit for me. The extra dry vermouth is too strong compared to the orange and cranberry flavors. It’s  also missing the lime, which I think is key to the perfect cosmopolitan. Next time, I will stick to the classic :). Still, if you prefer your cocktails dry and never could appreciate a cosmo, try this recipe, maybe you will enjoy it.
