You got too much basil on your hands? Try this unusual cocktail from La Distillerie!
First off, I’m so sorry about my lousy presentation, I was on a rush! This cocktail should be made in a Mason Jar, like most cocktails from La Distillerie, for a much better effect.
The Talented Mr. J
Ingredients
4 pineapple cubes (crushed)
1 1/2 oz Whiskey (Maker’s Mark)
1/2 oz Chartreuse
3/4 oz Lemon Juice
1/2 Simple Syrup
3-4 teared Basil Leaves
7-Up
Preparation
Start by crushing the pineapple in the bottom of a tall glass, or if you’re doing it like la Distillerie, in a mason jar. Add all the ingredients except the 7-up (or it will go boom! (in a bad way!)) on ice. Shake energetically. Fill with 7-Up and decorate with a pineapple cube and one basil leaf.
If you look carefully at the dates I posted the 13th and 14th martinis of the marathon, you’ll probably noticed that I skipped a day. If you already did notice, you are quite the detective. Bravo! Here’s the reason why I committed such blasphemy:
We had quite the scare yesterday! My young one got an unexplained fever. Very high fever. We were on the edge all evening and night, scared that the thermometer wouldn’t stop rising and would eventually explode. I am so glad it didn’t happen and that we didn’t have to go to the hospital. It was close, but in the end, it was more fear than harm. Now our little girl is perfectly fine. Happiness!
Tonight, Martini Marathon is back on with a martini that goes very well with one of my favorite food: Raw Fish. 😀
Saketini
The Saketini uses Sake to replace the vermouth of the “classic martini”. Like any cocktail, there are a lot of recipes for this drink. All’s important is that you alter it to your taste: less or more sake, the use of gin or vodka, choice of garnish, it’s up to you! As you will see below, I’ve made some experiences with the recipe myself.
Ingredients
2 1/2 parts Gin or Vodka
1/2 part Sake
Olive for Garnish
Preparation
Pour the gin (or vodka) and the sake in a shaker filled with cracked ice and shake until very cold (you can test with your tongue: if it sticks to the shaker, it’s ready! ). Strain into a chilled martini glass and garnish with an olive.
Variations
The olive is the “classic” garnish for this drink but you can choose a cucumber slice instead. Personally I think it’s a better idea, just to differentiate the drink from a normal martini. Another idea is to garnish with a lychee fruit for a very unique look that will impress your guests.
As you see on the photo, I had fun by adding ingredients to the Saketini. Adding 1 part of pineapple juice (Sakananastini) will go very well with this cocktail. Adding 1 part of ginger ale (sakingertini) is also a good idea, just add it to the mix after shaking the spirits to avoid a mess :). If you add any of those ingredients, avoid the olive as garnish. That’s just weird mister!
Appreciation
Without much surprise, I really enjoyed this one and will redo it again for sure. It goes really well with sushi. Of the 3 versions, I preferred the original’s stronger Sake flavor. My wife preferred the ginger ale version. One thing is sure, if you like sake, you will definitely love these cocktails.
Why Cinderellatini? No idea! Should be called "Liquid Skittles".
Tonight I am home alone with my kid so of course I need to be the responsible dad, which I am, and stay 100% sober, or if you prefer: 0% drunk. Oh no! Tragedy! What about the Martini Marathon, is that over?! …and comes the Mocktini to the rescue :).
The following cocktail is a nice surprise. Even though it’s virgin and “just” a mix of juices, the result is incredible! It looks really nice in a cocktail glass (the photo doesn’t do it justice), but it is so good that you might as well make yourself a bucket of the stuff. It tastes like refreshing liquid Skittles, no kidding. If that makes any sense. Of course you can always add 1 part of vodka to make it a “real” cocktail.
Cinderellatini
1 part Orange Juice
1 part Pineapple Juice
1/2 part Sour Mix
Club Soda
1 dash Grenadine
A Maraschino Cherry for Garnish
First thing, put the maraschino cherry in your glass. Pour the orange juice, pineapple juice and sour mix in a shaker with cracked ice and shake until your hands hurt. Strain into a cocktail glass and top with club soda by being careful to keep the nice juice foam on top. Now find the Jackson Pollock in you and drizzle grenadine syrup on top to create spots and lines (I use a spoon handle).
I needed some color today because the weather has been grey for a week. Even though I LOVE the rainy weather of autumn, it doesn’t mean I can’t lighten it up a bit with a colorful cocktail with tropical notes.
The Bikini Martini has many variants out there, some with gin and some without juice. Here is mine:
Bikini Martini
1 part Coconut Rum
1 part Vodka
1 part pineapple juice
Grenadine
An orange wedge for garnish
Pour everything but the grenadine in your favorite shaker with cracked ice and shake until froth. Strain into a cocktail glass. Slowly add a dash of grenadine and garnish with an orange wedge.
