When it rains in april, have an April Rain

Grey Time = Cocktail Time

The big easter holiday is almost over and I still haven’t got ONE SINGLE COCKTAIL! OUTRAGEOUS! But it’s not too late to save the day. Before I left for the long holiday I sent a tweet that went something like this: “4 days off! Awesome! Cocktail time! woot! “. I was excited. I got a reply that said: “April Rain or Spring Fever?”. I decided that before choosing which drink I would do, I should let the weather decide, praying for sweet sweet sun! Off course, it was grey almost all week-end. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have a good cocktail. If it’s sunny next week end, I’ll have the spring fever :).

The April Rain turned out to be pretty good. Like you will see, it’s very similar to a vodka martini but with a strong lime taste. It is perfect if you like a strong tart taste during a rainy day. Here’s the recipe:

April Rain

  • 2 parts Vodka
  • 1/2 part Lime Juice
  • 1/2 part Dry Vermouth

Very simple cocktail with ingredients that you have 99.9% chance to have home. Pour the vodka, lime juice and dry vermouth in a shaker filled with ice. Shake until cold and serve in a chilled cocktail glass.

Enjoy!

Sexy & Refreshing: the Kiwitini

The fresh and sexy Kiwitini

WOW! I don’t know about you but today was a fantastic sunny day for me. For the first time in the year I could stroll around the city wearing nothing but my Jack Daniel’s t-shirt…and pants off course. The point is: no coat! I needed something fresh to go along with the warm day, so my wife and I checked the fridge and found lonely kiwis. PERFECT!

The Kiwitini

  • 3 parts Vodka or Lemon Vodka
  • 1/2 to 1 skinned kiwi
  • 1 tsp simple syrup
  • Kiwi slice for garnish

Skin the kiwi and reserve one slice. Muddle the skinned kiwi with the simple syrup in a cocktail shaker. Once you have a nice kiwi paste, add ice and the vodka. Words of advice, if your kiwis don’t taste a lot, don’t use lemon vodka as the lemon taste will be too strong. Shake well and strain in a chilled cocktail glass. Add the reserved kiwi slice as garnish.

BOOM! Enjoy!

A Cocktail to speed up to warmer days

The Jamaican Ten Speed

Spring is at our door, but it surely doesn’t feel like it where I live! It’s still -10 degrees celsius outside (14 degrees farenheit) and we had not one, but two snow storm this week! Maybe mother nature didn’t realize that we’re in spring now. So here’s a little cocktail to warm up the place and start the season on the right foot. It is sweet, with tropical flavours that will scare the grey weather away.

The Jamaican Ten Speed

  • 1 part Vodka
  • 3/4 part Melon liqueur
  • 1/4 part Crème de banane
  • 1/4 part Coconut flavored rum
  • 1/2 part half and half

Pour ingredients into a shaker with ice and shake well until ice-cold.  Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Kick back and enjoy mon!
