Martini Marathon Day 14 – Saketini

The Saketini in 3 variations

If you look carefully at the dates I posted the 13th and 14th martinis of the marathon, you’ll probably noticed that I skipped a day. If you already did notice, you are quite the detective. Bravo! Here’s the reason why I committed such blasphemy:

We had quite the scare yesterday! My young one got an unexplained fever. Very high fever. We were on the edge all evening and night, scared that the thermometer wouldn’t stop rising and would eventually explode. I am so glad it didn’t happen and that we didn’t have to go to the hospital. It was close, but in the end, it was more fear than harm. Now our little girl is perfectly fine. Happiness!

Tonight, Martini Marathon is back on with a martini that goes very well with one of my favorite food: Raw Fish. 😀

Saketini

The Saketini uses Sake to replace the vermouth of the “classic martini”. Like any cocktail, there are a lot of recipes for this drink. All’s important is that you alter it to your taste: less or more sake, the use of gin or vodka, choice of garnish, it’s up to you! As you will see below, I’ve made some experiences with the recipe myself.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 parts Gin or Vodka
  • 1/2 part Sake
  • Olive for Garnish

Preparation

Pour the gin (or vodka) and the sake in a shaker filled with cracked ice and shake until very cold (you can test with your tongue: if it sticks to the shaker, it’s ready! ). Strain into a chilled martini glass and garnish with an olive.

Variations

The olive is the “classic” garnish for this drink but you can choose a cucumber slice instead. Personally I think it’s a better idea, just to differentiate the drink from a normal martini. Another idea is to garnish with a lychee fruit for a very unique look that will impress your guests.

As you see on the photo, I had fun by adding ingredients to the Saketini. Adding 1 part of pineapple juice (Sakananastini) will go very well with this cocktail. Adding 1 part of ginger ale (sakingertini) is also a good idea, just add it to the mix after shaking the spirits to avoid a mess :). If you add any of those ingredients, avoid the olive as garnish. That’s just weird mister!

Appreciation

Without much surprise, I really enjoyed this one and will redo it again for sure. It goes really well with sushi. Of the 3 versions, I preferred the original’s stronger Sake flavor. My wife preferred the ginger ale version. One thing is sure, if you like sake, you will definitely love these cocktails.

Enjoy!
